Director Jeff Fowler of Paramount Pictures’, recently talked about how the movies played a big part in getting on board to play the role of Shadow. Sonic 3 is set to hit theaters on December 20. Additionally, the movie has an ensemble cast that features Jim Carrey, Keanu Reeves, Ben Schwartz, Krysten Ritter, and more.
According to The News International, Jeff Fowler recently talked to SFX Magazine while promoting Sonic the Hedgehog 3. While the director was bombarded with questions regarding the movie, Fowler disclosed how he got Keanu Reeves to play Shadow in Sonic 3.
Sharing the similarities between John Wick and Shadow, Fowler told the magazine, “I’d be lying if I didn’t say there was just an obvious corollary between his performance in the John Wick films and the vibe we’re trying to channel for Shadow. Because Shadow, from a tonal standpoint, is an anti-hero, he’s got a little edginess to him.”
The director further expressed how Reeves’ performance as John Wick helped him bag the role of Shadow, saying, “It felt like the perfect fit for Keanu. He gave such a great performance. He knew what we were after, and was excited about playing the character and coming into our world.”
Previously, in an interview with Screen Rant Keanu Reeves disclosed his feelings on playing Shadow on the big screen in Sonic 3 and said, “For 50 years, Shadow has been in a state of suspended animation. He’s coming out of it seeking revenge. It was really the internal journey to get to the anger and the emotion. It was intense.”
