Setting up a second or even third account on a PS5 may seem like a tricky process sometimes. There are multiple ways to get to the right screen, and some of them are not as obvious. Some might think you have to turn off your PS5 completely and reset to add a new account, but this is not the case either. To get your accounts up and running, there are a few steps you need to follow.
There are a lot of good PS5 games out there and, if you happen to be sharing a console, you will not likely want to ruin any games if someone else is playing them at the same time. Similarly, having a separate family or child account if there’s a minor in the house might be important to keep them from stumbling on a more graphic game. Whatever the reason for creating multiple accounts, there are a few simple steps to follow to get the PS5 ready to be shared.
The basic steps to add another account all start the same way. You will want to head to your Profile image, select “Switch User” and then “Add User.” You will then be brought to another screen that gives you an option. To add another account to the PS5 that has its own PSN account, you will want to select the option on the left that says “Add a User to this PS5.”
PlayStation 5’s lineup for 2025 is absolutely stacked, featuring a new exclusive, several Xbox games, and a handful of amazing indies.
You will then have to accept the terms and then either sign in or create a brand-new PSN account. You don’t have to do this as you will see below, but this is the only way to setup a second permanent account with a profile and a connection to the cloud that will keep track of your games and saved data. If you log in, and you have used a PS5 or PS4 before, you will be able to access your games.
If this is your first time setting up an account, you will also be asked to verify the account and select your privacy settings.
However, this is not the only kind of account you can set up on a PS5.
