star Simu Liu has given a disappointing update on the sequel.
In 2021, the Marvel Cinematic Universe saw a new addition called Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. This MCU superhero movie starred Simu Liu and became one of the more critically and commercially successful films of Phase Four. The film also starred Awkwafina, Tony Leung, Michelle Yeoh, and Meng’er Zhang.
In an AMA on Threads, Liu said he was told Shang-Chi 2 would release after another Avengers movie. “But that keeps pushing back due to circumstances beyond my control. Hope to have more concrete news to share soon.”
The film is set to be written and directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, who previously directed the first Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and will also helm Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. The fifth Avengers movie is currently dealing with behind-the-scenes legal issues surrounding star Jonathan Majors.
There is no set release date, but if it were to come out after Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, it would likely be released in 2026 or 2027.
