SEGA Is Delisting a Bunch of Retro Games, And It's Got Fans Thinking | Push Square
SEGA will delist a laundry list of classic Mega Drive and Dreamcast games from various storefronts from 6th December, prompting many fans to ponder how the publisher plans to replace them.
While PlayStation is the least affected format due to its lack of backwards compatibility with the PS3, it will lose the SEGA Mega Drive Classics compilation from the PS Store. If you already own the game, then it’ll remain in your library.
On PC and Xbox, tons of games will be removed, including the likes of SEGA Bass Fishing, Crazy Taxi, and NiGHTS into Dreams. It all begs the question: what has the publisher got cooking?

Usually, when retro games like this get removed from sale, it means either a license is expiring or a new compilation is coming. Considering SEGA is planning new versions of classics like Jet Set Radio, Golden Axe, and Virtua Fighter, we’re expecting it to make the originals available in some form.
We wouldn’t be surprised if it created its own version of something like Capcom Arcade Stadium, a wrapper for all of its retro releases. It’d be really nice to see it a bit more proactive porting games from the SEGA Saturn and Dreamcast eras, alongside its Master System and Mega Drive classics.
Obviously, we don’t like to see games delisted like this, but we’d be lying if we said we weren’t excited by what’s to come. Game preservation is a big deal these days, and many publishers are finding success re-releasing and repurposing their old classics in a contemporary form. Let’s hope SEGA has a really great compilation on the way.
