The mysterious secret Predator movie that was revealed this past week may be an animated anthology film, according to a recent report from io9.
In a post on Gizmodo, io9 noted that multiple sources told them that the secret project is actually an animated movie — is “almost an anthology,” which tells three separate stories that focus on Predators fighting against warriors across multiple eras. io9 notes that one era may see Predators fighting pirates, while another could see it fighting samurai.
Currently, not too much else is known about the upcoming movie, other than the fact that it will be directed by Dan Trachtenberg. Trachtenberg directed 2022 film Prey, and will also direct the upcoming Predator: Badlands.
20th Century Studios president Steve Asbell revealed that a secret Predator movie had been made alongside the previously known Predator: Badlands. The mysterious film, according to Asbell, was one of several “really crazy but really cool” ideas that director Dan Trachtenberg pitched to the studios.
“After Prey became a success, Dan [Trachtenberg] came back and said he didn’t want to do Prey 2. And we’re like, ‘What do you want to do?’ And he rattled off a bunch of ideas that were really crazy but really cool,” Asbell said. “We’ve actually done two of them. Two are coming out next year. One I can’t talk about yet, but the other one is the live-action Predator film with Elle Fanning that just wrapped in New Zealand. That’ll be out theatrically sometime next year.”

Asbell clarified that the other project he “can’t say anything about yet” is also a Predator movie directed by Trachtenberg. It will come out before Predator: Badlands, though it’s unclear whether or not it will be released theatrically.
