Immediately after progressing 's campaign far enough to enter the Garbage region of its map (yes, that's actually what it's called), players are likely to hear a cry for help emanating from the nearby ruins of a farm. It's Vovchyk Koldyba, and he finds himself in a bit of a pickle: fellow Stalker Vitya Sheepskin and his band of merry men have discovered that Vovchyk has a stash squirreled away in a local pigsty. However, they haven't been able to find it, and Vovchyk isn't talking.
Random encounters like these are a central feature of . Vitya agrees to cut Skif a deal:if he finds the stash for them, then they'll split it 50-50. Players can instead threaten Vitya, telling him to go kick rocks — but it's easy enough to imagine how that turns out. This is a tough encounter, as with Vovchyk downed, the situation is clearly imbalanced, and not in the player's favor. However, there's a lot of loot to be had at the end of this random encounter, so long as Skif plays his cards right.
If Skif decides to threaten Vitya, it should come as no surprise that he and his allies will immediately attack. Depending on the player's gear and resources at this point, it can be a tough fight; Vitya and his friends are no tougher than the average human enemy, but they do have strength in numbers here. Consider running around the side of the pigsty as soon as the battle starts for a decent vantage point, from which it should be easy enough to peek around the corner and take them one by one, or lure them out individually.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl is a direct sequel, so players may feel like they need to play through the original trilogy first.
Vovchyk starts this battle downed, but if he's revived with a Medkit, he'll fight on Skif's side. Simply walk up to him and, as long as Skif has at least one Medkit in his inventory, there will be an option to hold F for healing.
