Square Enix and LightSpeed Studios, a subsidiary of Tencent Games, have announced Final Fantasy XIV Mobile for iOS and Android.
Supervised by Final Fantasy XIV director and producer Naoki Yoshida, FFXIV Mobile is a “sister” game to its PC and console MMO counterpart, and not a straight port and shared experience with the now 11 year old title.
The game will aim to recreate the original story of Final Fantasy XIV and will include music from its sister title as well as nine jobs available at launch and even non combat activities such as Disciples of the Land and Hand, fishing, Triple Triad (!), and Chocobo racing. The latter two activities will be available at the Gold Saucer and players can even customize their own homes just like the original game.
If this is what it takes to get Triple Triad on mobile, I’ll take it.
A report suggesting the game’s existence made the rounds this past summer, though details were scant, one major difference is that the game looks like it will arrive in the West as well.
Final Fantasy XIV Mobile will begin playtests in China “soon” and will be followed by a global launch sometime thereafter.
