Developer Rare has kicked off the closed beta for the PS5 release of multiplayer pirate game Sea of Thieves. As a result, the studio has taken to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to announce that the PS5 players are facing waiting times that are much longer than usual because of an influx of new players.
“The PlayStation 5 Closed Beta is currently experiencing a high volume of new players, which may result in longer waiting times than normal as pirates enter the Sea of Thieves,” said the studio on X. “Thank you for your patience everyone!”
The Sea of Thieves closed beta on PS5 went live yesterday, and is slated to go on until April 15. Players taking part in the closed beta will be able to carry over all of their progression to the full game once it launches on the platform. Closed beta players will also earn the Dauntless Adventurer Sails and Title for the PS5 version of Sea of Thieves.
Sea of Thieves was announced for PS5 earlier this year. The game supports 4K/60 FPS and 1080p/120 FPS on the console, and will also be playable on the PlayStation Portal. It is also currently available on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. The full release of the PS5 version is slated for April 30.
