Resident Evil 4's VR mode has officially started development, according to Capcom. The Resident Evil 4 remake is gearing up for release next month and despite being one of the most anticipated games of the year, there is still a lot left to be revealed about the title, including its mysterious PS VR2 integration. Now, on the release day of PlayStation VR2, Capcom has revealed that the game's VR mode will be coming after launch.
Resident Evil 4 originally released on Nintendo GameCube in January 2005. The game was marketed as part of the «Capcom Five,» a collection of five games the publisher was developing exclusively for Nintendo GameCube that also included Viewtiful Joe, Killer7, P.N.03, and the canceled Dead Phoenix. Resident Evil 4 was ported to PlayStation 2 late 2005 and has become infamous for its numerous ports to many systems spanning multiple console generations, including niche platforms like the Zeebo. In 2020, developer Armature remade the game in Unity Engine as a VR title, exclusively for Oculus Quest 2.

Despite Resident Evil 4 already receiving a VR remake in the form of Resident Evil 4 VR, its Oculus Quest 2 exclusivity means that Capcom is unable to bring the game to PS VR2. Instead, the publisher is going to include PlayStation VR2 functionality in the upcoming Resident Evil 4 remake. While this functionality was teased in a gameplay trailer in 2022, Capcom has announced today that development on the Resident Evil 4 PS VR2 mode has begun, indicating that it will be arriving long after launch.
