Initial excitement about the newly released demo for the remake may have quickly turned into revulsion with one of the more morbid style directions the game is taking in regard to animals. Perhaps this is a sign that the evil Umbrella Corporation in the game actually despises animals, or it is simply symbolic of the remake taking on a darker tone than the first version of the game. Either way, the demo showed players carnage that goes beyond the original.
The remake demo and release date were announced at the Capcom Spotlight on March 9, with the demo becoming available immediately. 's Chainsaw Demo lets players experience the village sequence near the beginning of the game, which included a memorable moment with a dog from the 2005 original. This demo is available on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Steam and has no time limit or cap on how many times it can be replayed.

In the original version of players come across a dog that has gotten stuck in a bear trap, and they have the option to rescue it. If they do, they are rewarded by the pup returning later to aid Leon in fighting an El Gigante. In the Chainsaw Demo for the remake Leon once again finds the dog stuck in a bear trap, but this time he apparently arrives too late. The remake's change to the dog makes it even more depressing and gruesome this time around by making the poor creature not only already dead, but having its blood and gore covering the entire scene.
During the rather short demo, players find even more examples of animals that have been added to the list of grisly features. Even some of the chickens, which can lay eggs that give Leon health, are becoming targets by attacking
