Pokemon Go players should be wary when using the companion application developed by Niantic, Campfire. Reports to the effect that players are being robbed when responding to Raid Flares have been coming to light on social media including Twitter and especially Reddit. While the conversation remains ongoing, numerous users on the platform have been offering recommendations for staying safe while playing Pokemon Go.
Campfire was created by Niantic to help trainers immerse themselves in their local community, connect with likeminded players, and organize raids alongside their fellow trainers. The launch of the application has, on the other hand, been plagued with various technical issues, resulting in a poor reception on the part of many Pokemon Go players.

Several different players have reported being robbed when attempting to participate in some of the raids which they discovered while using Campfire, many taking to Reddit in order to share their experiences and warn others about the potential dangers of using the application. One user for example said that “we initially recommended our local community to use this app to help build up in-person raid groups,” adding that “following a series of crimes revolving around it, including it being used to lure people for robbery, I’ve recommended everyone delete the app for their own safety.”
While some have pointed out that players have used Pokestops to attract potential victims ever since the launch of Pokemon Go back in 2016, others have noted that Campfire has created a more convenient way of luring unsuspecting players into dangerous situations.
