The team behind The Witcher Remake has announced a new video game called The Thaumaturge, a dark, story-driven RPG. Published by 11 bit studios and developed by Fool’s Theory, this new supernatural game takes place in a culturally diverse 20th century Warsaw. With morally ambiguous choices to make and demonic monsters to fight, The Thaumaturge looks like an intriguing new title.
In this city of Poland, there are Salutors, who are esoteric beings that only Thaumaturges can see and tame. And Thaumaturges can wield supernatural abilities by taking advantage of Salutors. These powers grant you abilities such as delving into minds and manipulating the psyche. Thus, Thaumaturges use the Salutors for the ability to discover people’s darkest secrets, desires, and insecurities. This allows you to bend peoples’ wills and change the world around you.
The Thaumaturge is set in the year 1905 and will be an isometric story-rich experience. While 11 bit studios has published games such as Frostpunk, Fool’s Theory helped make Baldur’s Gate 3 and Outriders. These two studios working together could make for a highly anticipated game. The Thaumaturge will include turn-based combat, with powerful enemies and dangerous encounters.
This is 11 bit studios’ largest project to date. Meanwhile, Fool’s Theory Design Director Karolina Kuzia-Rokosz had this to say about their new project:
“The Thaumaturge revolves around the idea of demons both on physical, and metaphorical layers. After all, it’s a game infused with 11 bit studios’ philosophy of meaningful entertainment. Its theme is evoked in different areas of the game with gameplay mechanics or narrative aspects being only a part of those”
