Redfall celebrated its first anniversary recently, with fans questioning the lack of information on DLC characters promised with the Hero Pass. With Microsoft shutting down Arkane Austin, the co-op shooter’s November update is the last, and development has officially ceased.
A new tweet from Arkane Studios reveals that those who purchased the Bite Back Edition of Redfall for the Hero Pass or upgraded to the same will be “eligible to receive the value of the upgrade.” It also linked to an article where it’s confirmed to be finalizing details for a “credit program.” More details will become available shortly as the article is updated.
Redfall launched on May 2nd, 2024, for Xbox Series X/S and PC, garnering negative reviews for its technical issues, bland gameplay and questionable design decisions. Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer expressed disappointment at the game’s reception and said review scores were “significantly” lower than the publisher’s expectations.
Rumors also painted a troubling picture of development, with significant departures due to an “unclear vision”. Staff were allegedly hopeful that the title would be rebooted or scrapped after Bethesda’s acquisition, but that wasn’t the case, and the publisher would have no involvement with it.
Arkane Lyon continues to function and is currently working on Marvel’s Blade (reportedly in development since 2022 and targeting a 2027 launch). Stay tuned for updates in the meantime.
