Developer Firewalk Studios unveiled its upcoming live-service multiplayer sci fi FPS, Concord, at Sony’s latest State of Play this week. Concord opened up the show and Sony featured both a cinematic trailer and gameplay trailer.
The game is a 5v5 hero shooter with various alien characters that wouldn’t look out of place in a Guardians of the Galaxy movie – or game. The characters even banter amongst each other. These characters are guns-for-hire called Freegunners in the Concord universe. Players will play as members of the crew of the Northstar, one such group of Freegunners.
Characters each have their own unique abilities, including creating fire walls, tossing out explodive knives, and even throwing trash bombs. Some characters can deploy walls to block paths, set explosive traps, lay down bullet stopping domes, enhance the speed of their teammates with spores, and more.
This is the first title from developer Firewalk Studios. The studio was formed by former members of Bungie and Activision. The studio was founded in 2018 and acquired by Sony in 2023.
Concord launches on the PlayStation 5 and PC on August 23. Firewalk Studios will kick off a public beta for the game sometime in July. Pre-orders will begin on June 6.
