Saturday Night Live’s has joined the cast of James Gunn’s .
Per The Hollywood Reporter, Bennett has been cast as a “notable reporter” at the Daily Planet in Gunn’s Superman, which releases in theaters next year.
Bennett joined the cast of Saturday Night Live for its 39th season in 2013. He was part of the cast until 2021, leaving the show after eight seasons. He’s also appeared in movies such as 2016’s Zoolander 2, 2017’s Brigsby Bear, 2019’s Greener Grass, 2020’s Bill & Ted Face the Music, and, most recently, 2024’s Unfrosted.
Additionally, he’s voiced characters in animated movies such as 2016’s Sing, 2019’s The Angry Birds Movie 2, 2021’s The Mitchells vs. the Machines, and 2023’s Nimona. He’s also voiced characters in television series such as DuckTales, M.O.D.O.K., Hamster & Gretel, Rick and Morty, and Big Mouth.
The cast of Superman also includes David Corenswet as Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, María Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer, Terence Rosemore as Otis, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, Pruitt Taylor Vince as Jonathan Kent, Neva Howell as Martha Kent, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho.
Written and directed by Gunn, Superman will be the first official film entry in the forthcoming DCU that is being helmed by Gunn and Peter Safran. Prior to that, an animated Creature Commandos series will be released later this year.
Superman releases in United States theaters on July 11, 2025, as part of the DCU’s first chapter, which is titled Gods and Monsters.
