Geoff Keighley has cautioned fans that this year’s Summer Game Fest kickoff show won’t have as many “shocking announcements” as in the past, although it seems like this may be a case of ol’ Geoff cannily managing expectations so he can exceed them. We already know a lot of exciting horror-related reveals are slated for Summer Game Fest, and according to a new rumor, the next entry in the Borderlands series may also be making its big debut this Friday.
This rumor comes courtesy of relatively new leaker Kurakasis, who has delivered some accurate information recently, with the backing of eXputer. Per our leaker, Borderlands 4 will either be making its debut at the Summer Game Fest kickoff, or it might be announced shortly before, with a meatier reveal of the game during the SGF show.
Of course, take this rumor with a grain of salt until we get confirmation, but 2K Games already teased they’ll be a part of the Summer Game Fest activities, saying they’ll “reveal the next iteration in one of 2K's biggest and most beloved franchises.” That kicked off all sorts of speculation, with some folks hoping that a new Mafia might be revealed, but Borderlands was always the more likely scenario, particularly with a Hollywood movie on the way.
Back in March, 2K Games parent company Take-Two Interactive purchased Gearbox from the embattled Embracer Group for $460 million. At the time, it was made quite clear more Borderlands was in the works, with T2 CEO Strauss Zelnick praising Gearbox’s ability to efficiently pump out hits…
