Yesterday Microsoft served up their latest Xbox Developer Direct, which offered reveals and information for a number of games, including Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Avowed, and Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II, but it seems there was actually another game teased during the show – Quake 6.
As spotted by eagle-eyed fans, during the Indiana Jones reveal segment, we get a brief glimpse of a whiteboard at developer MachineGames, and wait, what’s that on the left side of the image? “AKE 6?” Now, of course, there are different ways you could interpret that – maybe they were writing down breakfast orders after a long night of coding and somebody wanted six pancakes? Buuuuut that also appears to be a crudely-drawn Quake logo below the AKE 6, so the tease seems pretty obvious.
Also, since I know somebody will bring it up – yes, the last numbered game in the series was Quake 2005’s Quake 4, but 2017’s Quake Champions was internally known as Quake 5, so the next game in the series being Quake 6 checks out.
Of course, take this all with a grain of salt for now, but if Quake 6 is happening, the tease showing up on MachineGames’ whiteboard would seem to indicate they’re making the game. That would make sense, as MachineGames already have Quake experience, creating a series of new episodes for the recent remasters of Quake and Quake Il, “Dimension of the Machine” and “Call of the Machine.” Here’s how those expansions were described…
