Ashfall will begin its closed beta on August 3rd. NetEase’s upcoming post-apocalyptic MMORPG, which will release on PC and mobile, released details on what beta testers can expect.
Everyone who gets to test the game during the two-week closed beta, will enter an environment set after humanity was devastated by nuclear war. The war was launched by rogue-AI, and you are one of the survivors in the harsh new reality.
Ashfall’s post-apocalyptic setting is inspired by Eastern cultures, and the Chinese developer is using those inspirations in everything from the music, the architecture, and the monsters who populate its wasteland. Speaking of music, the score will be co-produced by composer Hans Zimmer, Steve Mazzaro, and Inon Zur, whose credits include the Fallout and Dragon Age series.
NetEase is also highlighting the story, worldbuilding, and some of the features that you'll be able to experience during the beta. You and other survivors have to leave your vault in order to embark on a mission to find the Core of Creation, which is said to be the key to saving what is left of the world. Of course, there will be enemies, and you'll have to make a number of discoveries as you go through the world, and potentially make deals with robots, find resources, craft your gear, and of course, fight enemies throughout.
Ashfall is designed for cross-play. The beta will support this feature. You'll be able to play the game as a multiplayer experience and immerse yourself in the world as an MMORPG but you'll also be able to enjoy it solo.
If you’re interested in signing up for the beta, NetEase has set up an application here. The form does ask you if you prefer to play on PC, mobile, or if both work, as well as more info about you
