The Palworld community manager has responded to a tweet describing the upcoming game DokeV as a "Palworld killer." Palworld made a massive impact when it launched in early access earlier this year. Smashing records on Steam and Xbox Game Pass, Palworld is easily one of the year's biggest games, and if it's able to stick the landing with future updates, it should have serious longevity.
Developer Pocketpair is looking to improve Palworld with future updates that will add PvP, new islands to explore, and, of course, new Pals to catch. However, Palworld's success hasn't gone unnoticed, with reports indicating that other studios are trying to chase the trend with mobile games inspired by the open world survival title. In the meantime, other games are being stuck with the "Palworld killer" label, prompting a response from community manager Bucky.
Recently, a Twitter user shared footage of DokeV, an open world game that looks like Pokemon meets Grand Theft Auto, suggesting that it could be a Palworld killer. Bucky responded to the tweet, making fun of the idea that games can't co-exist, and saying, "DokeV still looks incredible!" Bucky then expressed hope that DokeV resurfaces soon, and praised its OST.
DokeV turned heads with its impressive Gamescom trailer in 2021, but there haven't been many updates for the game since then. DokeV has effectively been radio silent for years, as developer Pearl Abyss focuses on the fantasy action-RPG Crimson Desert. DokeV's silence has led some fans to accuse the game of being vaporware, though maybe the studio will be inspired by Palworld's success and refocus on the promising open world monster-catching game.
Palworld proved that there is certainly a market for Pokemon-inspired games that tackle different genres than the wildly successful RPG series. There's plenty of room for both Palworld and DokeV, with the former a survival game and the latter an open world action game.
