Payday 3 Has Removed Denuvo DRM After Fan Backlash

Whenever you hear about a game containing Denuvo DRM, you'll usually find a horde of angry gamers not too far away. It's a DRM software that is used by a number of high-profile developers, despite the fact that the vast majority of people that know what it is outright despises it. Payday 3 is one such game that included Denuvo DRM, much to the dismay of fans, but developer Starbreeze Studios has now confirmed that it has been removed just days before the game is set to release.

This announcement was made via the official Payday 3 Twitter account in a post that simply states that "Denuvo is no longer in Payday 3". It doesn't explain why Starbreeze has decided to remove the controversial software from Payday 3 at the last minute, but it more than likely has something to do with the fan backlash upon its discovery. Chances are if fans didn't kick up a stink, it would still be in Payday 3 upon release.

If you're wondering why Denuvo DRM is so despised within the gaming industry, you only have to look at the variety of performance issues in certain titles that the software has been blamed for. Fans of Resident Evil 4 Remake chalked up the game's performance issues on PC to Denuvo DRM, and Ghostwire: Tokyo was review bombed almost a year after its initial launch as a Denuvo DRM update reportedly stopped people from launching the game properly.

Thankfully, it's now been removed from Payday 3, and fans are pretty happy about it, celebrating in the comments section of the announcement tweet and thanking Starbreeze for listening to fans. Now we can rest easy knowing that there's less of a chance that the game will be wonky on PC when it launches next
