Palworld has been a massive success for developer Pocketpair, but it has lost its stranglehold on the top of the Steam charts. Palworld successfully combines the open world survival game genre with monster-catching mechanics to great effect. It became an overnight sensation, skyrocketing up the Steam charts in the process.
Palworld was at one point the top-selling game on Steam, and not only that, but it was also the most-played game on the platform. Palworld's incredible success saw it passing 2 million concurrent players on Steam, putting it just behind Counter-Strike for Steam's concurrent player record. There's no denying that Palworld has been a big hit, and if the developers are able to fix its more egregious issues and add new content to the game in a timely manner, there's a good chance that the game will remain incredibly popular throughout 2024.
Even so, Palworld couldn't keep its top spot forever, and as the updated Steam charts show, the game has lost its spot as the top-selling Steam game and the most-played Steam game. The recently-released Helldivers 2 has taken the top spot on Steam's bestsellers chart, while both Counter-Strike 2 and Dota 2 have pushed Palworld off the most-played chart. Palworld currently finds itself in third place for both categories, though it's worth pointing out that Counter-Strike 2 is technically a free-to-play game.
Palworld enjoying this kind of success while still being in early access is incredibly impressive, and it will be exciting to see if lapsed players return to it as the major updates come out. So far, Palworld updates have been focused almost exclusively on bug fixes and fixing the game's technical problems. However, developer Pocketpair has shared its roadmap plans for future Palworld updates, and needless to say, some exciting stuff is on the way.
Future Palworld updates will add new Pals, new islands, PvP, crossplay, and more. Eventually, the Xbox version of the game should be closer in quality to the Steam
