Aaron Keller, the Game Director for Overwatch 2, put out a developer blog reflecting on Overwatch 2's journey since launch, including Supports, collaborations, matchmaking, and rewards.
CommunicationCommunication about the game and it's direction is something that players were not happy with, and something Blizzard has worked towards improving. These developer blogs are part of that improvement, and they also want to publish roadmaps to give players an insight into the future of Overwatch 2. We can expect to hear more about this in April.
Supports in OW2The state of Support heroes has been a common topic of discussion amongst the Overwatch community. To combat the feeling of Supports being picked on, Blizzard tried three different things:
Reduce the ability for Damage Heroes to disrupt the enemy backline and target Supports Give Supports additional tools to deal with the threat Exercise some restraint. Many players were getting accustomed to the switch to 5v5Blizzard is happy with the position Support is currently in, and are adding two new Support heroes in Seasons 4&6.
CollabsBlizzard was nervous about how the One-Punch Man collab would be received, but the runaway success gave them the confidence to do more collaborations, and are hoping to do another large collab later this year.
Competitive & MatchmakingOne of the biggest issues players had with Overwatch 2's new competitive system was the partial rating reset at the beginning of each season. Starting with Season 4, this feature will be removed. Blizzard is considering still doing a ranked reset, however it would be after a much longer period of time (yearly), or coincide with ranked system changes.
