NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 4070 is reportedly not the success that the company hoped it would be & will be halting further production till June.
Reports of NVIDIA limiting the production of its GeForce RTX 4070 GPUs started to appear at the end of April. It was stated by various industry sources within the Chinese Board Forums that the company would be limiting the production of the gaming chips till the end of May. However, the whole situation hasn't improved a lot & there are now reports alleging that the production will be further limited by a month and extended till June.
It is mentioned that NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 4070 GPU production was mainly halted as a means to stop deals and distributors from lowering the ASP of the graphics card prior to the launch of the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti. The GeForce RTX 4060 Ti is expected to launch at the end of this month and having the RTX 4070 placed right next to it would directly affect the sales of the new cards. Given that the 16 GB variant of the RTX 4060 Ti is expected to cost $499 US, the maximum price drop one can achieve on the RTX 4070 should be around $550 US.
The problem right now seems to be that gamers and consumers, in general, are reluctant to even dish out $600 US for the GeForce RTX 4070. It looks like the $600-$800 US GPU segment has been affected by major price cuts on older GPUs such as the RTX 3080/3090 series and Radeon RX 6800 / 6900 series. There are also several other factors such as NVIDIA prioritizing AI GPUs over gaming chips while also trying to avoid excess inventory build-up which they would have to deal with later by offering rebates to their partners.
Now with all that said, NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 4070 isn't certainly a bad card. It offers decent GPU performance
