Niffelheim, the widely popular 2D survival game by an independent studio, Ellada Games, joined the Google Play Pass library this month. Originally released for PC in 2018, Niffelheim has slowly become available across multiple platforms. Not to be mistaken for its free version, Niffelheim: Viking Survival, Nieffelheim comes with a price tag of $4.99 + tax if you’re not using Play Pass. But players who have access to Google Play Pass can now count this game in their Rolodex of options. It is a testament to the game’s playability and success in the mobile platform world.
You play as a fallen Viking warrior sent to Norse mythology’s underworld (alt. spelling Niflheim), and only by battling through the cold, dark wasteland, crafting powerful items and collecting pieces of Midgard’s gate will you achieve admittance to Valhalla. This 2D survival game comes with everything gamers look for: survival, exploration, crafting and combat. But the gameplay isn’t the only thing that Niffelheim offers to its players. Highly detailed graphics and sweeping soundtracks also make for an excellent immersive experience. And, thanks to its procedural world-creating mechanics, each playthrough is unique.
Ellada Games, founded in 2013, has quite a few published games to its name. And all these games, including Niffelheim, come with pretty decent ratings and positive reviews. They are quite a company to watch. It will be interesting to see where they take this foray into mobile games with Niffelheim and, hopefully, others to come.
