Sony has rolled out PS5 System Update 23.02-08-20.00 and from the looks of it, this isn't your typical stability update.
The new firmware version weighs in at roughly 1.185GB and packs more than the general stability and performance improvements that we've become used to. In addition to improving the messages and usability on some screens, this new system update includes changes to the Music feature in the control center which should make the feature easier to use. After installing this update, [Music] now offers a two-column layout, allowing users to browse across songs, playlists, and categories.
Also included with PS5 System Update 23.02-08-20.00 are changes to broadcasting with PlayStation VR2. Additionally, the new firmware version includes additional functionality for voice commands, allowing users to say "What's new" through voice command on any screen to check out new PlayStation 5 features. We've included the major release notes for this new PS5 system update below, although there are likely more undocumented changes that we aren't aware of just yet:
If enabled, your console will download and install the new firmware version automatically. Of course, it's also possible to download the system update manually via the console's system update feature in the settings menu.
Sony will likely update its support page with the most recent release notes soon.
The PlayStation 5 is available worldwide now. Back in August of this year, Sony reported to have sold close to 42 million units of the console worldwide.
