Apple announced its latest M3 chip at its 'Scary Fast' event earlier this week. The company introduced three variants of the chips designed for each market segment. In comparison, the base chips are yet to arrive on the forthcoming MacBook Air models. However, the company made the 13-inch MacBook Pro redundant by offering the standard M3 chip with the 14-inch MacBook Pro. Additionally, the 14-inch M3 MacBook Pro also poses a threat to the 15-inch MacBook Air.
Apple announced the new 15-inch MacBook Air at its WWDC 2023 event with an M2 chip. The company launched a bigger variant of the MacBook Air to tackle the declining sales of Macs. Apple will potentially upgrade the 15-inch MacBook Air with an M3 chip next year, but the current availability of the 14-inch MacBook Pro with an M3 chip makes the 15-inch MacBook Pro worthless. As mentioned earlier, Apple equipped the 14-inch MacBook Pro with an M3 chip and reduced its price to $1,599. The 15-inch MacBook Air with an M2 chip is currently available for $1,299. The $300 price difference gets you significant performance gains over the 15-inch MacBook Air and a lot more.
The whole point of introducing another variant of the MacBook Air was the bigger display. Apple's latest M3 MacBook Pro features a 120Hz 14-inch mini-LED display, which is a lot brighter than the MacBook Air. Furthermore, the machine features better speakers compared to the Air, which makes media consumption a lot better. Additionally, the port situation on the M3 MacBook Pro is vast, offering an HDMI, SD card slot, and much more. On the 15-inch MacBook Air, users are restricted to USB-C ports and MagSafe for charging. Moreover, the battery life is also better on the new 14-inch MacBook Pro.
