Every portable Mac features flexible display ribbon cables that are extremely fragile and have to be handled with extreme care, and when these cables are pressed against accumulated dust and dirt, they can get damaged, leaving the owner with an unusable machine. These incidents are being referred to as ‘dust door.’

The dust and dirt likely enter through the same vents where the hot air is exhausted. It is unclear if users affected by the problem were offered complimentary service from Apple or if they had to pay a massive sum to replace the entire display assembly and the cables.
