Prophecy Games have just released the first screenshots for the next installment in the venerable series of Tribes multiplayer shooter games.
The game doesn’t have an official title just yet, but the developer is gearing up for an extensive playtesting phase next week beginning on November 29. Tribes fans interested in signing up for the test should head over to the game’s official Discord.
Prophecy Games was originally founded in 2019 as a subsidiary of Hi-Rez Studios, developers ofTribes: Ascend. In 2020, Prophecy Games spun off from Hi-Rez, becoming an independent studio.
The fast-paced, jetpack-fueled Tribes series begin in 1998 with the release of Starsiege: Tribes and was followed up by its sequel, Tribes 2, in 2001. Tribes: Vengeance, released in 2004, experimented with adding a single player campaign to the series.
The Tribes series laid dormant for eight years following the launch of Tribes: Vengeance until the release of Tribes: Ascend in 2012, a free-to-play revival of the series developed by the aforementioned Hi-Rez Studios. While Tribes: Ascend enjoyed positive reception from critics, the game didn’t generate enough revenue for Hi-Rez and development was halted in 2013. The game eventually resumed development under a smaller team in 2015, but too didn’t last very long, as Tribes: Ascend received its final update in 2016.
