PlayStation's busy season of new hardware and accessory releases is officially underway. The slimmer models of PS5 it revealed earlier this year are now available, and time will tell just how popular they're going to be. Unlikely that they will quickly become as scarce as the original models at launch, but I'm sure the slim versions will be pretty popular. People have a couple of hangups with the new consoles though, top of the list being that you can't stand them upright without paying a little extra.
Like a lot of consoles, the PS5 can be stored vertically or horizontally depending on your preference and where you have space for it. The base model of the console comes with an adjustable stand, giving owners the option of keeping their PS5 upright or on its side. Owners of the slimmer model will have to pay for that privilege. The new consoles come with a stand that lets you keep your PS5 horizontally, but the stand that enables you to stand it up straight costs extra.
There is no benefit to keeping your PS5 upright as opposed to lying down, however, PlayStation has the console standing up in almost all of its marketing.
Since the new models are available now, so is the stand you're going to need if you want your console to be upright. Available on Amazon through the link below, you'll need to tack an additional $29.99 onto your total if you don't want your PS5 to be lying on its side all the time. The good news is the stand is also compatible with the original PS5 models, but since they all came with a stand that lets you stand them vertically anyway unless you've lost or broken that one you shouldn't need to buy a new one.
If you want the slimmer models of PS5 to stand upright, then you'll need this vertical stand.
