NetEase is expanding in North America again, with Worlds Untold, a new, fully-remote studio based in Vancouver, led by former BioWare vet, Mac Walters.
Bringing nearly two decades of experience at Bioware, Walters is the CEO of Worlds Untold, and he’s joined by a few other industry vets to kick off development. The studio is working on developing narrative-driven AAA action adventure games. Walters has a ton of experience in that field, having been the lead writer on Mass Effect 2 and 3 creative director on Mass Effect: Andromeda , and production director on the Dragon Age franchise.
Also on the team are vets from franchises like Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Halo, the Sims, Metal Gear Solid, and Assassin’s Creed.
According to NetEase’s announcement, “Walters and his team built Worlds Untold to create IPs with depth and possibility that can't be contained in a single game, or even a single medium. The team’s debut project is underway, a near future, action adventure game in a breathtaking world filled with mystery and exploration”.
NetEase is investing heavily in expansion, having recently announced Fantastic Pixel Castle, headed by Greg Street and their first project, ‘Ghost’, Jackalyptic Games, headed by veteran Jack Emmert, which is currently working on a Warhammer MMO, and T-Minus Zero Entertainment, headed up by Rich Vogel and working on its first project, an original IP sci-fi action title.
Now with Worlds Untold, Walters says, “We’re creating incredible and meaningful stories that we believe are best told and experienced through play. We are starting by crafting worlds that we all dream of discovering and then will put the player in the leading role of the most unforgettable adventures”.
