With Sonic the Hedgehog 3 set to introduce Shadow, it's no surprise that fans are hoping the film takes inspiration from Sonic Adventure 2. In fact, some fans have taken this further, hoping the movie features Sonic Adventure 2's iconic theme song, Live & Learn by Crush 40.
As it happens, our dreams might just come true. In a livestream with content creator and Sonic fan, GamesCage, Crush 40 vocalist Johnny Gioeli admits that there has been "chatter" about getting the track in the movie in some capacity, they just haven't settled on anything "concrete" yet.
"Regarding the movie... there's some chatter. There has been some very high-up chatter about certain parts of Live & Learn in the movie," says Gioeli. "But there's nothing concrete yet."
He adds that "something's not right" if that song isn't in the film, something many fans are likely to agree with. While Shadow has had many different pieces of music attached to him in the past, Live & Learn is what we heard blasting through our TVs in his debut. It's the original Sonic and Shadow song, and it's hard to imagine a story following similar-ish beats to Sonic Adventure 2 without it.
It was recently revealed that Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will be in theatres on December 20, 2024, so we're in for a long wait. We're still waiting on a trailer too, which we can expect sometime in the new year.
That said, it remains to be seen just how faithful Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is to its source material - assuming Sonic Adventure 2 is the source material it's using. So far, the films have changed a lot, even retconning how Sonic can live in a world with humans. Still, if the film team decide to lift from Sonic Adventure 2, it will be interesting to see how they approach the Maria situation. To
