Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser’s new studio has revealed its first two projects
Absurd Ventures, the new transmedia company from Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser, has announced its debut projects.
Launching in 2024, its first two “universes” are American Caper, which will begin life as a graphic novel, and A Better Paradise, which is an audio fiction series.
“American Caper centers on two normal, badly-damaged American families in a world of corrupt business, inept politics and bungling crime,” Absurd said.
The graphic novel is being illustrated by comic book artist Simon Bisley.
A Better Paradise is described as “an existential suspense thriller, set in the near future”. The 12-episode series is being co-produced with QCODE Media.
Houser co-founded Rockstar in 1998, alongside his brother Sam, Terry Donovan and Jamie King. He was a key figure behind many of the company’s most successful titles, having written or co-written almost all of the games in the Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption series, as well as Bully and Max Payne 3.
Houser left Rockstar in early 2020 and announced Absurd Ventures earlier this year. According to its website, the company is involved in the creation of games, film and TV, animated series, audio fiction, and comics/graphic novels.
“We are building Absurd Ventures to create new universes and to tell great stories, wherever and however we can,” Houser said in June.
It recently came to light that Rockstar veterans Lazlow Jones and Michael Unsworth are working with Houser at Absurd Ventures.
