Need Help With Fitness Goals? Whoop Offers Members an AI Coach
Fitness tech company Whoop has a new personal training option: an AI-powered chatbot called Whoop Coach that promises to give people more insights into their health and fitness goals while also providing more personalized recommendations for workouts.
Whoop says that the new featured is powered by OpenAI's GPT-4, and it works much like you'd expect. Users ask the chatbot questions and it'll provide answers. Whoop listed some examples in its press release, but it's typical stuff. Ask general questions like why specific exercises are important or request recommendations for training regiments based on goals. It'll also answer basic fitness and health questions that someone could easily search on Google.
Perhaps the most useful feature is the ability to ask Whoop Coach health-related questions. The bot is capable of combing through all of the health data points that the straps have collected on you—upwards of 140 different data points consistently over the span of a person's Whoop usage—to answer questions like, "Why am I tired all the time?" It can also field questions about how the user stacks up to other people their age for things like activity, sleep, and other fitness metrics.
According to Whoop, the app can also handle basic membership, account, and device support questions. For example, you can ask it why your Whoop strap isn't charging and get some basic troubleshooting steps to try.
Most fitness apps give users tailored fitness and dieting advice, and they use a lot of the same technology.
