Former Smackdown Women's and Tag Team Champion Naomi (real name Trinity Fatu) finally made her first public statement about her situation with WWE. Thursday afternoon, Fatu reposted an autograph schedule during Wrestlemania Weekend on her Instagram, when a fan asked if she was still in WWE.
Fatu replied, «no, frien'.»
It's been 10 months since she and the former Sasha Banks, now Mercedes Mone--the current IWGP Women's Champion--had disagreements with creative and walked out. Both women were bashed verbally on commentary and seemingly buried within the company. WWE released a statement at the time saying that the champions had enough time to rehearse for a match but refused to participate. Both women were stripped of the tag championships and new champs were soon crowned.
Fatu has not let that diminish her career, though. Outside a few conventions such as Chicago's C2E2, she mainly avoided wrestling-related appearances following her walkout. She's been exploring more opportunities away from the ring, including modeling during New York Fashion Week alongside Mone. Last August, she also attended the She-Hulk: Attorney at Law premiere in Los Angeles and has been on an episode of Paramount's Bar Rescue with Mone and Maria Menounos.
The former champ will be appearing at WaleMania on Thursday during Wrestlemania Weekend as it will be her first wrestling-related show that she's appeared at.
It's interesting to note that on WWE's Superstars page, the site still lists Naomi as part of its roster.
