Any fighting game with a roster as eclectic and varied as MultiVersus will have players frantically weighing up each fighter’s pros and cons to narrow down the best characters to play as.
Warner Bros’ wacky brawler is finally upon us, having fully released on 29th May 2024 after its open beta came to an end in April 2023.
The free-to-play game pits various characters owned by the entertainment giant against each other, including the likes of Batman, Arya Stark and Gizmo from the film Gremlins.
At launch, there are a whopping 26 different characters and various levels inspired by them, such as the moody Bat Cave.
Although the game is free, players will still have to pay with real-world money or earn in-game currency over time to unlock the full line-up, as only five characters are available to use at the start.
And it is an odd mix of characters to begin with, too, as Bugs Bunny, LeBron James, Finn from Adventure Time, Shaggy and Wonder Woman are who we will be mastering the game’s ropes with at launch.
However, we’ve spent some time with the game both after its full release and during the open beta to help determine which MultiVersus characters are the best, so read on for our analysis and details of the full roster.

Agent Smith, the sinister character played by actor Hugo Weaving in The Matrix films, is also landing in the game, with some reports suggesting he can be unlocked already by defeating bosses in the game’s PvE mode.
