2012’s Lollipop Chainsaw is very much a product of its time, but it’s attracted a bit of a cult following over the years for both the obvious reasons, and because of surprisingly sharp writing by a pre-Marvel-fame James Gunn and its solid, varied gameplay. Well, a new version of the game, entitled Lollipop Chainsaw RePop has now locked down a September release date.
Lollipop Chainsaw RePop was not made with the involvement of Gunn or the game’s original co-director Suda51, but its original executive producer Yoshimi Yasuda is heading up the project under the Dragami Games banner (Dragami is the successor to original Lollipop Chainsaw co-developer Kadokawa games). RePop looks to occupy a somewhat unique position between a remaster and remake, offering largely similar graphics (uprezed and touched up of course) but a number of gameplay tweaks and improvements. The story will remain the same as before though, with players being able to play with gore intact or RePop mode in which the blood is replaced with colorful effects. Unfortunately, a lot of the licensed songs from the original game will be getting the chop. Check out a new trailer for Lollipop Chainsaw RePop, below.
