Developer Reikon Games has revealed more gameplay footage of upcoming sci-fi shooter Metal Eden. The video, coming in at a little over 20 minutes, showcases the first level of the game, and comes courtesy of Australian publication Stevivor. Check it out below.
The video kicks things off with protagonist Aska getting kitted out for battle with necessary equipments, including limbs, weapons, and armour. This is then followed by a briefing, which explains that Moebius is “sick” and the problems will have to be dealt with by Aska. The mission showcased is to rescue a target in a part of Moebius referred to as the Hive.
The game seems to start things slowly before introducing enemies for Aska to take down. Early on in the level, the player has to use parkour abilities to cross gigantic chasms. The whole time, a character known as Nexus is giving Aska their thoughts on Moebius.
It doesn’t take too long for the action to start kicking into high gear, however, with the player having to take down a bigger group of enemies reinforced by a particularly big and powerful target. The action is further underscored by a bass-thumping electronic track as more and more enemies start spawning into the arena.
The video also showcases a variety of weapons available in Metal Eden: a pistol, an SMG, and a shotgun. The player is able to switch between the three weapons seamlessly in the midst of battle. A lot of the action and platforming in Metal Eden seems to be inspired by Doom Eternal, which also had players mixing and matching parkour abilities in the thick of action.
The video caps things off with a big bombastic fight against a group of much stronger enemies, each of which have to be juggled as the player dodges and weaves their way throughout the combat arena.
Metal Eden was unveiled with a trailer during Sony’s recent State of Play with a trailer, which you can check out here. The PS5-exclusive shooter is set for release on May 6.
