It would appear that Venom voice actor Tony Todd doesn’t care much for the NDA he undoubtedly signed. Writing on Twitter, the star effectively confirmed that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is planned to release in September on PS5, with a massive ad campaign planned for the month prior. “Hold on to your… And hold [your] breath,” he exclaimed. “Gonna be necessary!”
Obviously this isn’t particularly mind blowing information. The original Marvel’s Spider-Man enjoyed a hugely successful September launch, and developer Insomniac has already confirmed that the title is on track for a 2023 release. Todd will likely get into trouble for this tweet, but he’s not exactly unveiling anything we couldn’t have inferred already.
Of course, just because a September release date is planned internally, doesn’t mean the game will hit it – there are a number of things that could still change. But it looks like Sony has a month in mind, and we respect Todd for making that information public when he’ll have definitely signed contracts instructing him not to!
One other thing to note here is that Sony’s revamped PS5 hardware model, with a purported detachable disc drive, is also apparently scheduled to release in September. That means the company could be plotting an absolutely gigantic month for its newest console, as there’s no doubt Spider-Man is going to seriously drive sales this holiday.
