Insomniac Games delivered one of the most well-received video game adaptations of a comic franchise with the release of 2018's Spider-Man. Praised for a narrative faithful to its source material, a passionately recreated New York City, and perhaps most importantly, web-slinging traversal and combat that felt fun and fluid, Spider-Man's critical reception hailed it as a new standard in comic book game adaptations. The 2020 follow-up, Spider-Man: Miles Morales expanded on Insomniac's successful formula, earning further praise as a smaller-scale adventure more akin to an expansion pack or spinoff than a full-fledged sequel, only fueling fans' anticipation for Spider-Man 2.

Tony Todd, who is voicing the symbiote-infected Eddie Brock, more aptly dubbed Venom for the upcoming Spider-Man 2 game from Insomniac has announced via Twitter that he anticipates the game to launch sometime in September. Citing a massive publicity push in August, Todd's theory has traction based on his role in the game, though there is yet to be any official announcement to back up the claims. Todd released another tweet shortly following the first, presumably after being scolded by his employer, stating simply, «Oooops.» Whether Spider-Man 2 arrives in September or sometime later in the year, Insomniac has yet to back off its previously announced 2023 release date.
