In an interview with EW, Season 2 executive producer Kevin Wright opened up about what fans can expect from Oscar winner Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in the upcoming next chapter of the Tom Hiddleston-led series. Wright confirmed that Quan’s character OB will be introduced as the Time Variance Authority’s “quirky repair guy,” whom Loki and Mobius will enlist to help with the God of Mischief’s glitching problem.
“His job is basically every piece of tech, every computer, every thing that is running at the TVA,” Wright said. “He either designed it, or he fixes it and keeps it running.”
Wright also shared a new behind-the-scenes detail about the Goonies vet’s casting, revealing that Marvel casting director Sarah Halley Finn was the one who suggested Quan for the role after seeing his performance in an early screening of Everything Everywhere All at Once. “I think Kevin Feige made a call maybe April 12, just to follow up and say, ‘Please, please do this,'” he said. “Little did we know, Ke is apparently already a giant Marvel fan and was a big fan of Loki season 1.”
Loki Season 2 is directed by Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, who recently helmed the Moon Knight series. In addition to Hiddleston, the next installment will also feature the return of Sophia Di Martino as Sylvie, Owen Wilson as Mobius, Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Judge Renslayer, Wunmi Mosaku as Hunter B-15, and Jonathan Majors. Joining the returning cast are franchise newcomers, Oscar winner Ke Huy Quan, Blindspotting’s Rafael Casal, and Game of Thrones’ Kate Dickie, and more.
