Players who comb through LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga will find a reference to a 1980s animated show called Ewoks — but some players may have been trying to forget it. Although the reference is a minor one, it seems strange that it made it into such a big and highly-anticipated game. The show wasn't especially popular even when Star Wars' hype was at its peak, and lasted only two seasons.
The Ewoks show chronicled the adventures of Wicket Wystri Warrick, a young Ewok living in the Bright Tree Village with aspirations of becoming a great warrior. It takes place between the original Star Wars film, A New Hope, and the Ewok-centered made-for-TV movies, Caravan of Courage and The Battle for Endor. Wicket and his tribe face off against Morag the Tulgah Witch and monsters like the Raich on the Ewok's home of Endor, in a strange Star Wars spin-off series that feels very different from the galactic rebellion of the main movies. The overarching conflict is centered around the «Sunstar,» an Ewok artifact with the power to control minds.

There are a few reasons for Ewoks' lack of success or popularity. Its silly animation and loosely-connected one-off stories contrast sharply with the rest of the franchise. It was more like The Smurfs or Care Bears than a Star Wars series, and although it was entertaining for young viewers, it lacked in the more creative robustness of some of its peers. The Ewoks also speak English throughout the show, despite them not using it in the Ewok movies or Return of the Jedi, set some years later, which didn't give it a ring of authenticity.
