Tom Felton, who made his name in the Harry Potter franchise as the scarred wizard's schoolroom enemy, Draco Malfoy, reveals the career advice that Jason Isaacs, who portrayed his sinister onscreen father Lucius Malfoy, gave him on the set of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Along with main stars Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint, Felton appeared in every Harry Potter movie as the spoiled son of a Death Eater, often acting as an antagonist to the trio and causing further grief for the Boy Who Lived. However, as the series progressed, Draco Malfoy became more sympathetic, growing into a troubled teenager desperate to win his father's approval despite his reservations about joining Voldemort. It was in Half-Blood Prince that the full extent of Draco's conversion to becoming a Death Eater was revealed, with the confused wizard attempting to murder Dumbledore on the orders of the Dark Lord, but finding that he can't bring himself to do it.
As with most of his young costars, Felton became an international star overnight for his work on the Wizarding World series. However, unlike many of his Potter contemporaries, he had already begun to develop an impressive body of work as a child actor; after marking his feature film debut with The Borrowers, Felton went on to appear in the period drama Anna and the King and the British drama series Bugs before being cast as Draco Malfoy. As a result, the young actor was used to studio auditions, and Felton claims this arrogance won him the part, despite being completely unfamiliar with the source material. And while Isaacs didn't make his first appearance as Draco's father until the second film, the two actors quickly became close and still jokingly refer to each other
