An image from The Sandman show reveals a new look at Lucifer's costume. Gwendoline Christie plays the ruler of Hell in Netflix's upcoming adaptation of Neil Gaiman's DC Comics series. The British actress first rose to fame for her role as Brienne of Tarth in Game of Thrones (for which she received an Emmy nod in 2019) and is also well-known for portraying the First Order stormtrooper Captain Phasma inStar Wars: The Force Awakens and briefly in The Last Jedi.
There have been numerous attempts to adapt The Sandman to the screen since 1991, including a feature film with Joseph Gordon-Levitt starring and directing, who left the project over creative differences in 2016. Producers Gaiman and David S. Goyer then took the project to Netflix, which signed a deal to produce the series in 2019. Two-time Tony nominee Tom Sturridge leads The Sandman cast as Morpheus, a.k.a Dream, alongside Christie as Lucifer and Vivienne Acheampong, Boyd Holbrook, Charles Dance, Asim Chaudhry, and Sanjeev Bhaskar in supporting roles. Though The Sandman does not yet have a release date for 2022, Netflix has recently been ramping up its promotional campaign with various looks at the fantasy series.
