American Idol season 20 country singer Noah Thompson was shocked that he made the Top 5 after he had to perform from his hotel room due to his COVID-19 diagnosis. Noah, a 20-year-old construction worker from Louisa, Kentucky, auditioned for American Idol after his best friend Arthur believed in his raw talent and signed him up for the show. At his audition, he sang «Giving You Up» by Kameron Marlowe while playing guitar. The American Idol judges--Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan--were really impressed by him, and Katy called him «the American dream.» They all said yes, and Noah earned his golden ticket to Hollywood.
Noah has sailed through the American Idol season 20 competition with his sincere and authentic renditions of every song he chooses. He put his own country spin on songs such as «Stay» by Rihanna featuring Mikky Ekko and «Heartbreak Warfare» by John Mayer, stunning the judges with his ability to make any type of song his own. During the American Idol Top 7 week, Noah was diagnosed with COVID-19, along with fellow finalist Fritz Hager. Although he was able to attend his mentoring session with will.i.am he could not perform at the dress rehearsal like Fritz did because of the timing of his diagnosis. Thus, in a scene reminiscent of American Idol season 18 when the contestants were forced to perform from home due to the pandemic, Noah performed from his hotel room. Although Noah was visibly sick, he delivered two powerful performances and advanced to the Top 5.
