American Idol season 20 Top 5 finalist Nicolina Bozzo said that she feels «like a winner,» despite her elimination from the competition. Nicolina is an 18-year-old university student from Toronto, Ontario, Canada. At her audition, she stunned American Idol judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan with her gorgeous rendition of Sara Bareilles' «She Used To Be Mine,» which earned her a golden ticket to Hollywood. Since then, Nicolina's song choices have showcased her stellar vocals. Throughout the competition, the American Idol powerhouse vocalist delivered performances that were sometimes moving, sometimes energetic, but always entertaining.
During American Idol Top 10 week, Nicolina made history twice. She became the first contestant from Canada to earn a place in the Top 7 of the show. She was also the first finalist ever to choose a villain's song on Disney Night, taking a risk that paid off by singing «Poor Unfortunate Souls» from The Little Mermaid, the signature song of Ursula the Sea Witch. Nicolina sailed into the Top 7, singing «Alone» by Heart for her TikTok sensation song and «Light In The Hallway» by Pentatonix for her Mother's Day dedication. She made it into the Top 5 and had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be mentored by country music superstar and American Idol season 4 winner Carrie Underwood. She sang «Blown Away» by Carrie and «All I Ask» by Adele. Despite two performances that blew the judges and the audience away, Nicolina did not receive enough votes to move into the Top 3 and was eliminated from the competition, along with Fritz Hager. HunterGirl, Leah Marlene and Noah Thompson will now compete for the American Idol crown in the finale.
