Country singer Noah Thompson won American Idol season 20, but he now admits that there was a time during the competition that he thought about leaving the show. Noah, a 20-year-old construction worker from Louisa, Kentucky, had no prior performing experience when he auditioned for American Idol. His best friend Arthur believed in his raw talent and signed him up because he knew that he would never have done it himself. Noah's impressive rendition of «Giving You Up» By Kameron Marlowe earned him three votes of yes from the American Idol judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan, and a golden ticket to Hollywood.
Throughout the competition, as Noah put his country twist on songs such as «Falling» by Harry Styles (Top 20), «Stand By Me» by Ben E. King (Top 14), «Heartbreak Warfare» by John Mayer (Top 11), and «You've Got a Friend in Me» from Toy Story (Top 10), he became a true artist. It was no surprise when he won the show and his single, «One Day Tonight» skyrocketed to the top the of the music charts, although Noah himself could hardly believe it. Throughout the American Idol competition, Noah was a humble and relatable contestant whose biggest goal was not to win the show, but to be the best father he could possibly be to his 1-year-old son Walker, whom he shares with his long-time girlfriend, Angel.
