Fritz Hager Interview: American Idol
Top 5 American Idol season 20 finalist Fritz Hager is a very talented singer-songwriter who put his magic touch on every song that he performed on the show. Fritz is a 22-year-old singer from Tyler, Texas, who worked as a security officer before he left his job to pursue music. He grew up loving music, taking guitar lessons in middle school and teaching himself to play the piano. When Fritz was in high school, he was a finalist in the 2018 Musical Theater Songwriting Challenge, earning the opportunity for the closing number from his musical, The Coffee Shop Musical, to be performed by professional Broadway actors.
During his audition, Fritz revealed that as a child he was really inspired by American Idol season 11 winner Phillip Phillips, who sent him a personal message. When Phillip returned to perform later in the season, Fritz's dream came true when he met him in person. At Fritz's audition, he sang «Before You Go» by Lewis Capaldi. Although judge Luke Bryan thought he needed a little bit more work and voted no, Fritz earned his golden ticket to Hollywood with two votes of yes from Katy Perry and Lionel Richie.

Throughout the American Idol competition, Fritz showed tremendous growth, infusing every one of his songs with his distinctive sound.
