Set to be the nineteenth consecutive release for the annual Call of Dutyfirst-person shooter franchise, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2—not to be confused with the 2009 release of the same name—was first unveiled in late April of this year. While there are still plenty of unknowns concerning the title, Activision and Infinity Ward are set to drop the curtain in a worldwide reveal trailer debuting on June 8, 2022. This was confirmed by a collection of live-action Call of Duty: Modern Warfare-themed teaser trailers, the most recent of which features EDM musician Steve Aoki.
Dubbed the “Ultimate Team” trailer, the brief clip features Aoki sitting in a kind of troop transport vehicle alongside iconic Call of Duty characters like John Price and Simon “Ghost” Riley. Aoki jokes about his compatriots listening to his music ahead of the mission before showing off a cake he prepared for the occasion, prompting Price to turn to Ghost and say, “okay, we’ll leave him in the truck.” The original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 wasn’t known for its comedic overtones, and this trailer seemingly sets the stage for something slightly less stone-faced.
