Earlier this month, IGN revealed that Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones, Breaking Bad) and five others had been cast in Sonic 3. Many assumed that she would be playing Rogue or Amy, introducing new animal friends to the film universe. However, according to Daniel Richtman who leaked Ritter's involvement before the announcement, she's a human character called Captain Rockwell.
That's all the information we have right now - a name and a rank. We know that the Guardian Units of Nations (or GUN for short) exists in the movies thanks to the second film, so she's likely a member. But given how slim those details are, we can only speculate on what her role will entail.
One possible character she could be playing is GUN soldier Topaz from Sonic X, who has a very intimate relationship with Rogue the Bat. The two were asked by the president to find out why Dr Eggman had stolen data on Project Shadow, a focal point of the third movie. It would certainly fit.
As highlighted by ah-screw-it on the Sonic movie subreddit, Topaz also has no last name, so she could easily be Captain Rockwell. However, there's no confirmation Rogue will even be in the movie, so it could be that Ritter is simply playing an original character like Agent Stone.
While Ritter's character is shrouded in mystery, fans think they've figured out who Alyla Browne is playing.
Given that she's a young girl, many believe she has been cast as Maria, AKA the kid who infamously gets killed by a GUN soldier while saving Shadow, motivating him to hunt down the members of their organisation. If she is Maria, we could see one of the series' most upsetting scenes brought to life on the silver screen.
However, there's still no word on who's playing Shadow himself. According to Richtman, it's Hayden Christensen donning the black fur, but Paramount is staying tight-lipped about who's in the booth.
Sonic 3 releases later this year on December 20, so we'll no doubt find out more over the coming months.
In the meantime, we have the
