Overwatch 2 is offering the Calavera Reaper skin and its accompanying cosmetics for free via Twitch Drops from now through March 19. This Overwatch 2 skin is the latest in a series of cash shop items that have been given away for free not long after they were originally sold for real money.
Having recently passed the halfway mark for Season 9, Overwatch 2 recently put out a large midseason patch that buffed nearly half the hero roster. The update also added a few new UI elements, Competitive Play display features, and the new Hero Mastery: Gauntlet co-op PvE mode for Overwatch 2.
To celebrate the mid-Season 9 update in Overwatch 2, Blizzard is giving away a former cash shop bundle for free via Twitch Drops. By watching nine hours of any Overwatch 2 streamer between now and March 19, players can unlock the Calavera Reaper Epic skin, as well as the voice line, name card, and emote that came with the original bundle back when it was in the in-game store. Once this offer is finished, fans hoping to get this skin will have to purchase it for 1000 Overwatch Coins – a $10 value.
Calavera Reaper was originally added to the store for the Day of the Dead in November 2022. In December of the following year, it was made available for individual purchase in the Overwatch 2 Hero Gallery. Now, less than two years after its first appearance, it is being given away for free.
This shop skin isn’t the first one Overwatch 2 has held a free offer like this. The Blue Steel Baptiste, Captain Torbjorn, and Cybermonk Zenyatta skins in Overwatch 2 have been given out as Twitch Drops in the past, with the latter two being costly Legendary cosmetics. Like its predecessors, Overwatch 2 isn't offering a refund for players who happened to have purchased Calavera Reaper previously, leading these fans to feel cheated for buying them.
